Public ads, search engines and AI
Ads on fritorg are public. They can be read, stored and reproduced by search engines and AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude, so people find them when they ask. What an ad says can therefore show up elsewhere even after you have deleted it. Pages that require login, such as messages and My page, are closed to search engines.
Who we share data with
- Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) carries the traffic between you and fritorg (secure connection and protection against attacks). Cloudflare is our data processor. Transfers to the USA use the EU's standard contractual clauses.
- Domene.no (Norway) provides the email we send login links and messages from.
- Kartverket, the Norwegian Mapping Authority: When you type an address, we look it up in Kartverket's address service. Maps load directly from Kartverket in your browser, so Kartverket sees your IP address when you look at a map.
- The Brønnøysund Register Centre: We look up organisation numbers for businesses that post ads.
- Other users see what you post in ads and what you write in messages to them.
- Authorities, only when the law requires us to.
Where the data is stored
The data is stored on a server we run ourselves in Norway, with backups in Norway. Photos of ID documents are stored encrypted, and only fritorg's administrators can see them. Every time someone looks at them, it is logged.
Cookies
We use one cookie, which keeps you logged in. It is necessary for the service and does not require consent. Cloudflare may also set technical cookies to protect the site against abuse. We use no cookies for analytics or marketing.
Your rights
You can ask for access to the data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, receive it in a machine-readable format, object to processing and restrict it. You can withdraw your consent to verification at any time; we then delete the photos. Send an email to [email protected] and we will reply within 30 days. You can also complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet (datatilsynet.no).
Changes
When we change this statement, it gets a new version and date, and we ask you to read it the next time you log in.
Version 1. Applies from the day www.fritorg.no opens to everyone.
Terms of use
1. About fritorg
fritorg is a marketplace where private individuals and businesses post ads for places to stay, experiences, vehicles and rental of items, and get in touch with each other. fritorg is run by Bau Holding AS (organisation number 937 830 483). Agreements to buy, rent or take part in experiences are made directly between the users. fritorg is not a party to these agreements and does not receive payment.
2. Account
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
- The information about you must be correct. An account belongs to one person or one business.
- You are responsible for what is done from your account. Tell [email protected] if you think someone else has gained access.
3. Ads
- Posting ads is free.
- You are responsible for the ad: that the description, price and photos are correct, that you have the right to sell or rent out what you advertise, and that you have the right to the photos.
- You follow the rules that apply to what you offer, for example rules on short-term rental in housing cooperatives and condominiums, tax on rental income, insurance when renting out a car, and the rules on boating licences.
- Not allowed: illegal goods and services, false or misleading ads, ads for something you do not have, discrimination, personal data about others, advertising for other services and links to fraud.
4. Use of your content
When you post an ad, you give fritorg the right to show, store, adapt the format of and translate it, and to make it available to search engines and AI assistants, for as long as the ad is up. You still own the content. We cannot always remove what search engines and AI services have already collected.
5. Messages
Messages between users must be about the ad. Harassment, spam and attempted fraud are not allowed. If a message is reported, fritorg may read the conversation to handle the report.
6. "Verified user"
The badge means that fritorg has compared a photo of the user's passport or driving licence with a photo of the user and the name in the profile. It is not a guarantee for the person, for what is advertised or for a deal.
7. Deals between users
The agreement is made between buyer and seller, or renter and owner. In deals between private individuals, the Consumer Purchases Act does not apply. Our advice: do not pay large amounts in advance to someone you do not know, use a payment method with buyer protection, make a written agreement, and check a vehicle before you buy it.
8. When rules are broken
fritorg may remove ads and messages and close accounts that break these terms or the law. You can report ads and messages in the service. We tell you why, unless that would hinder the investigation of a crime.
9. Liability
fritorg is provided as it is, and we cannot promise that it is always available. fritorg is not liable for users' agreements, goods, services or payments, or for losses resulting from them. This does not limit liability for intent or gross negligence, or rights you have under mandatory law.
10. Closing your account
You can close your account at any time by writing to [email protected]. Your ads are then removed, and your data is deleted as described in the privacy statement.
11. Changes
We may change the terms. For significant changes, we ask you to accept the new terms the next time you log in.
12. Law and disputes
Norwegian law applies. We first try to settle disagreements amicably. Consumers can also contact the Norwegian Consumer Authority (Forbrukertilsynet) or the Norwegian Consumer Council (Forbrukerrådet). Otherwise, Oslo District Court is the agreed venue, as far as the law allows.
